No technical knowledge and nothing to install. Watch the video or follow the written steps: either way you finish with a resume ready to download as a PDF.

The written walkthrough

Estimated time: Under 5 minutes

  1. Step 1: Pick a resume template

Click "Create my resume now" and you land in the template gallery. They all work for any field — what changes is the look. Do not get stuck here: you can switch templates later without losing anything you have typed.

  2. Step 2: Fill in the basics

Name, e-mail and phone unlock the rest of the editor. You need to be signed in at this point, because this is where the resume starts being saved to your account.

  3. Step 3: Complete the sections the job asks for

Once the basics are saved, the remaining sections show up: work experience, education, courses and qualifications, skills and languages. None of them are mandatory — fill in what makes sense for your application. If you get stuck writing, the professional goal and professional summary generators will draft those two texts for you.

  4. Step 4: Adjust colours, fonts and template

The "Colours, templates and settings" button lets you switch templates, enlarge the headings and choose the main colour. Everything shows up instantly in the preview, so you can try combinations until you like one.

  5. Step 5: Download the PDF and apply

Click "Download" and save the PDF. The file comes out as real text rather than an image — that is how company screening systems can read what is written on it. Before applying, run the file through the ATS Checker to see how an automated screening reads your resume.

Questions from people starting out

The questions we get the most about how the builder works.

Do I need an account to build a resume?

Yes. The account is what keeps your resume saved: without it there would be no way to come back later to edit it or download it again. Signing up takes under a minute and can also be done with your Google or LinkedIn account.

What format is the resume downloaded in?

PDF. It is the format any company can open without breaking the layout, and the one screening systems read best. The PDF has selectable text — it is not a picture of your resume.

Can I switch templates after filling everything in?

As many times as you like. The content is stored separately from the design, so switching templates from the "Colours, templates and settings" button erases nothing you have written.

Where do I find a resume I built earlier?

Under "My resumes" in your account dashboard. From there you can reopen it to edit, download the PDF again, or use an older resume as the starting point for a new application.

Do I have to fill in every field?

No. Only the basics are needed to unlock the editor; the rest you fill in according to the job. A short, focused resume works better than one full of empty or irrelevant sections.

How do I know my resume will pass automated screening?

After downloading the PDF, upload the file to the ATS Checker. It shows how a screening system reads your resume and points out what usually knocks applications out before a recruiter sees them.
